General Optics Corporation (GOC), established in 1993, is a company used to develop, manufacture and sale of optic communication components. GOC expanded her business into fuel cell, 2005. Followed the development of Unitized Regenerative Fuel Cell (URFC) the company further developed a hydrogen generator and expanded into a multiple billion dollar global market.
Hydrogen is considered as one of candidates for storage of excess power generated from solar, wind and hydro. Unlike other developers mainly working on low temperature fuel cells, GOC chose applications of elevated temperature fuel cell and reversible fuel cell. GOC also partnered with Yuan Ze University which are well known for its fuel cell research and development. GOC developed core technology of membrane electrode assembly for fuel cell and reversible fuel cell. GOC studied how hydrogen can be generated from the fuel cell by electrolysis and developed series of commercial URFCs. The hydrogen generator developed is about half of the cost of competitors, it also has improved convenience and safety. GOC debuted a mid size hydrogen generator in Hanover Hydrogen + Fuel Cells April 2009 and immediately received orders from Germany, UK, Netherland, Austria, Norway and successfully entered European market.
