Headline Formosa Plastics group plunge into development of new battery, solar power and wind turbine

Formosa Plastics group, Taiwan largest energy group has been intensively working on next stage energy strategy plan, and plunges extensive research and development into new generation battery, solar cell and wind power.
The group established a new company, Nan Ya Photonics Inc. which has signed an agreement with EPISTAR in the end of 2010 for strategically cooperation in development of LED lighting.
In new generation battery (lithium iron phosphate battery, fuel cell) business, Formosa Energy & Material Technology Co., Ltd., Nan Ya Plastics Corporation, Nan Ya Printed Circuit Board Corporation of the group are manufacturing cathode material for lithium battery, cooper foil, fuel and electrolytes for lithium batteries, separately.
In solar cell business, Formosa Sumco Technology Corporation, Formosa Plastics Corporation and Nan Ya Plastics Corporation are manufacturing silicon wafer, EVA and PET film, separately. Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Corporation also plans to invest NT$ 30 billion for a new plant manufacturing poly silicon material.
In wind power business, Formosa Heavy Industries Corporation and Formosa Plastics Corporation are working on strategy plan. Formosa Heavy Industries partnered with TECO to develop wind turbine and successfully enter Chinese market. Besides, Formosa Energy & Material Technology Corporation has partnered with Chery Automobile Corporate Ltd. of China. Ha Tinh Steel Corporation, Vietnam will develop anode material (graphite). This will build a complete lithium battery material products line. However, Formosa Plastics group has no plan to enter battery assembly business in the near future.
